Jim Mischel, nationally recognized Windows Help programming expert and author of "The Programmers Guide to WINHELP.EXE" spoke at the May Online Communication meeting.
Austinites are lucky that Jim has moved here from Arizona. Ironically, his current work is not so much in the area of Winhelp as it is game development and more cool things we'll cover in a later issue. Mischel's topic was "Enhancing WINHELP with dynamic link libraries (.dll's)." While this is somewhat esoteric talk for technical writers who are not necessarily programmers, it is to Jim's credit that he communicated very well the power of these files which add so much functionality to otherwise humble Winhelp. I'm glad to see more interest in Winhelp, especially in the area of multimedia development. I think Winhelp has been kept under a basket for too long. The growing interest in Hypertext Markup Language for the World Wide Web is also rejuvenating hypertext systems of all platforms.
