Michelle Ann Daigle, writer and actress born in Houston, passed away Saturday at her father, John Daigle's home in Evergreen, CO. Her mother, Mary Daigle Eckerman and her step-father, Chuck Eckerman reside in Austin. Her step-grandfather, Joe Walling, lives in Houston, TX. Her step-mother, Marty Knight, lives in Henderson, NC.
At 27, Michelle had a lifelong interest in an eclectic mixture of music, film and writing. She appeared in many radio and television commercials and had several screenplays in progress. She was also a history buff, passionate reader and studying forensics at the time of her passing. Survivors include her best friends, Makayla Machado and Mary Anderson of Austin and Amy Hodges of Bellville, Texas.
Michelle, described by her mother as a Christmas Angel, was born December 1, 1973 and was a "Citizen of the World". She was active in the local Democratic Party and fought for civil rights and promoted the cause of cultural diversity in all her works. She was also proud to be one of the first selected to serve in the national service, Americorps program. In Austin, she also worked at Girling Healthcare where she had many loving friends. She suffered a number of lifelong cardiovascular and abdominal illnesses having had open-heart surgery at age four.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated for the: Michelle Ann Daigle Scholarship Fund, devoted to education for multi-cultural, multi-ethnic students at St. James Episcopal School, 3701 E. Martin Luther King Blvd., Austin, Texas 78721.
Pallbearers are: Steve and Adam Daigle, Ken Pieper, George Sullivant, Michael and Kitty Kahn. Honorary pallbearers include Travis Daigle, Philip, Tim, Philip, Jr. and Mark Vetrano, Gene Sullivant, Neil Pieper and William Crawford. Don Pieper officiated at the Wake service.
Survivors also include her aunts, Dianne Pieper, Cecilia Terry, Pat Kelly, Elaine Vetrano, Ruth Ghormley and Janet Running in addition to cousins Amy, Elizabeth, Tiffany, Kate, Jennifer, Lynn, Sarah, Andrew, Zachary, Rebecca, Taylor Elizabeth as well as Mark Josef and Sarah Slezak. Preceding her in death are her Grandmothers Elizabeth Daigle Walling and Ann Sullivant; and Grandfathers Sterling Daigle and George Sullivant as well as her cousin Michael Kelly.
Graveside service and burial will be Saturday, June 11, 2001 at 2 p.m. in Forest Park - East, 6900 Lawndale, Houston TX, 713-921-6623 .
